Wisconsin Has a Housing Crisis
With statewide housing inventory levels at historic lows and median home prices continuing to rise, Wisconsin has a major workforce housing shortage problem. Employers in the state are having a hard time recruiting workers to fill thousands of job openings due to a historic shortage of affordable housing options for workers. This issue impacts all aspects of economic development and commercial real estate.
Two of the biggest barriers to new home building in communities are the opposition from existing residents, or NIMBYs (Not in My Backyard), and the lack of financing tools for new development.
You can help by using the form on the page linked below to send a pre-written message, encouraging state lawmakers to pass legislation and fund loan programs to help fix Wisconsin’s housing shortage.
The Wisconsin REALTORS® Association (WRA) supports rebuilding our housing inventory through various legislative proposals including AB 266/SB 297, which would bring much-needed predictability to the development-approval process. Additionally, several bills offer innovative solutions with loan programs to generate more housing opportunities in Wisconsin. While the passage of this Workforce Housing bill package is essential, our elected officials also must provide the vital funding necessary in the state budget.
Today, please play your part in helping to increase Wisconsin’s housing inventory.
Send a prewritten message to your State Representative and Senator to urge them to support BOTH the Workforce Housing Bill Package and the vital funding necessary to fix the housing crisis!
