Did you know that CARW has student memberships? This discounted membership is a great way for students interested in real estate to begin networking even before graduation. Read below to see how Matt Waters, Marquette University student secured an internship after attending the CARW Holiday Party!
“I was introduced to real estate by my grandfather, father, and uncles, who flipped multiple properties throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin when I was very young. From there I’ve worked as a real estate technician and property management intern learning many hands-on skills about real estate. Starting in my sophomore year at Marquette, I wanted to become involved with more and more real estate events to build my network. I joined the real estate club here and attended the MU Real Estate Gala, to get advice from professionals. I asked what other groups and organizations assemble events for real estate professionals, and their responses were CARW and NAIOP. I invited a couple of friends to join me at the CARW holiday party at the MAC. During my time networking, I complimented Tom Gale on his festive snowflake-designed sports jacket. From there I introduced myself and started chatting it up. He then wanted me to meet Wally Sauthoff and Marilyn Herzberg. I connected with them and got Wally’s contact information. A couple of days later I went into their office to learn more about what they do and interviewed with Wally. By networking at the holiday party, I secured an internship with NAI Greywolf. These informational and social real estate events are great to meet other professionals and learn many new things about the industry. I have tried to attend every event I can to get myself out of my comfort zone and improve personally and professionally.”
