On Tuesday, September 12th the NextGen group met for its last session with three seasoned professionals in the Commercial Real Estate Property Management industry. We were joined by Susan Ertel (JLL), Sherry King (Colliers), and Laura Kleczkowski (Newland Enterprises) moderated by Kyle Fink, CCIM (Colliers). They discussed AI, tenant retention, and the importance of relationships. The session was held at CARW’s home, TWO-FIFTY.
Here are a few takeaways:
Words of advice:
– Be sure to follow up and tie up loose ends
– Get property managers involved early. Brokers attract tenants to the building; the property management team gives them a reason to stay.
– Be upfront with expectations
– To be successful as a property manager: learn different aspects of property management (especially asset classes), have a general understanding of accounting and how your building operates.
– Understand what the owner needs
– Managing up – Don’t be afraid to reach out to people and get the job done. Everyone’s busy!
– Building trust & friendships is an important part of making sure tenants are happy.
– Look for diverse rooms to create better perspectives and gain insights.
– Always enter a room with confidence.
– Be inquisitive; don’t be afraid to ask questions!
Cheers to a great year NextGen class of 2023!
