Anna Mortensen
Project Assistant | Interior Design
EUA
I am passionate about exploring how office design can enhance productivity and sustainability. My determination, creativity, and strong organizational skills enable me to tackle challenges effectively and learn from each experience. I value constructive criticism as a vital component of the learning process. I also enjoy networking events and connecting with professionals across various industries, particularly in real estate, construction, and commercial design. In my free time, I dedicate myself to exercising, reading or spending time with family/friends.
Q) Where did you grow up?
A) I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1999 and moved to Brookfield when I was just three. I spent my entire childhood there before heading to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Interior Architecture. Growing up in my neighborhood was a wonderful experience, but I always felt a pull to return to Milwaukee. In high school, I loved exploring downtown with friends and family, and our trips to the Milwaukee Repertory Theater were always a highlight. Little did I know I would one day live right next to the theater! When job opportunities arose in Milwaukee, I seized the chance to pursue my dream of becoming a commercial interior designer in the city I’ve always cherished.
Q) What was cool when you were growing up but isn’t cool now?
A) Lip Smackers! Flavored lipstick for kids – flavors like soda, candy, fruit, etc.
Q) What’s your favorite place to travel to?
A) I have visited Jamaica twice and thoroughly enjoyed both trips. I plan to return for an extended two-week vacation in the future. While I cannot travel internationally as often as I’d like, I love exploring the East Coast. My trip to Cape Cod was particularly memorable, where I had the opportunity to go whale watching and swim at South Beach. It’s a wonderful destination for strolling through charming towns or relaxing with a book on the beach. My sister recently moved to Wilmington, NC, and I look forward to visiting her frequently. I have been there once before and had a fantastic experience. I am drawn to the fresh, salty air of the East Coast.
Q) Which projects are you involved in/most excited about?
A) I am currently involved in the renovation of the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, a project our team at EUA has been designing for the past three years. This endeavor has been quite a journey, and I am particularly excited about it due to the theater’s status as a historic landmark in Milwaukee, which was in need of a significant update. I look forward to seeing the completion of this project and the pride our team will feel in successfully navigating such a challenging undertaking. The building will feature beautifully designed spaces and some creative finish selections for the restrooms. This project is especially meaningful to me, as it is one of my first since being hired full-time, and I have been involved from start to finish.
Q) If you could have lunch with anyone in the world, who would it be?
A) Recently, I was reminded of my Grandpa Jim, my mother’s father, who passed away when she was just 24, meaning I never had the chance to meet him. I’ve heard countless stories about him, and I often wish he could have been a part of my childhood and witnessed my journey to where I am today. I can imagine that our lunch together would be filled with laughter, making us forget all about the food!
Q) What do you hope to get out of your NextGen Experience?
A) I aim to emerge from the NextGen experience with valuable connections to industry peers. I seek to gain extensive knowledge about real estate businesses and how I can apply this understanding to my design career. Ultimately, I hope this experience will open doors to new opportunities and experiences.
