Q: What do you enjoy the most about commercial real estate?
A: Commercial real estate is a unique asset class with so many factors that go into understanding what makes a property or deal successful. I enjoy the challenge in that no two deals are the same and the satisfaction of seeing all your hard work come to fruition. It’s one of only a few industries that can truly make an impact (positive or negative) on almost everyone, so you better get it right.
Q: What is the best piece of advice you have received?
A: Every person you meet is a potential door to a new opportunity, either personally or professionally. Therefore, build good bridges along the way because you never know how they’ll weave into the larger picture of your life. Also, try and surround yourself with people smarter than you and don’t ever be afraid to ask questions.
Q: What is your favorite quote?
A: It’s a 3-way tie:
“Smile…it makes people wonder what you’re up to.” – Jill Shalvis
“Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.” – John Lennon
“Be who you are and say what you feel. Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.” – Dr. Seuss
Q: Where did you grow up?
A: I grew up in South Milwaukee, and as I almost always have to preface, it’s not the south side of the City of Milwaukee, as most people assume. Although it’s small as far as suburbs go, I find it amusing that a majority of people born and raised in the Milwaukee area have never heard of South Milwaukee. I usually have to tell people it’s 15-20 minutes south of downtown along Lake Michigan and by Oak Creek.
Q: What was cool when you were growing up but isn’t cool now?
A: Where do I begin?! Rollerblades, friendship bracelets, playing Oregon Trail on Apple Computers during library time in elementary school, Starter jackets, Cabbage Patch Kids, renting a VHS movie from Blockbuster, talking on the house phone for hours with your friends…the list is endless!
Q: What’s your favorite place to travel to?
A: I love traveling so it’s hard to pick just one as it depends on the type of trip. If I had to pick one, though, I suppose it would be New Zealand. It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world and has so much to see and do, especially if you like to be adventurous!
Q: What do you hope to get out of your membership with CARW?
A: Since moving back to Milwaukee after living and working in Chicago for the past 14 years, my goal is to connect with the local CRE community here in order to build my professional network in a new city and hopefully make some long-lasting friendships. Being successful in business means making a lot of great connections and that’s what I love doing.
