Q) What do you enjoy the most about commercial real estate?
A) Commercial real estate is so much more than tangible with the potential to generate profit through capital gain or rental income. Commercial real estate determines the environment in which we live. It creates literally and figuratively communities by providing a center on which to build. Next come jobs, economic development, housing, entertainment options, quality of life, and more.
Q) Where did you grow up?
A) I was born in Lithuania, which is in Eastern Europe. In my early twenties, I chose an adventurous move to Ireland during the “Celtic Tiger” years (a period of rapid real economic growth fueled by foreign direct investments). I moved to the U.S. in 2004. I live in Waukesha County, and I consider Wisconsin my home state.
Q) Where is your favorite place to travel?
A) I don’t have a favorite. We live in the best country because we have EVERYTHING! We have so many different landscapes with natural amenities, wildlife, and climate zones within the United States that sometimes it is hard to choose!
Q) What is your favorite quote?
A) “Think globally, act locally” by Scotsman Sir Patrick Geddes, long considered the father of town planning. The quote has been used and continues to be used in many different contexts. I often refer to this quote while talking about real estate with my commercial members. We live in the beautiful state of Wisconsin! Let’s invest our time, energy, talents, and money here!
Q) What projects are you involved in/most excited about?
A) I am excited about residential real estate (re)development projects since housing is the basis of stability and security for an individual or family. Real estate developers with public and private sector leaders can greatly impact the community by providing new housing and improving or repurposing (as adaptive reuse) old properties. Wisconsin has deep roots in manufacturing, with products and brands that are nationally and internationally known and utilized. I am excited for Wisconsin as the global manufacturing industry enters its fourth revolution: innovation such as robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence
Q) What made you choose Commercial Real Estate?
A) Commercial real estate/commercial lending has always been relationship-oriented vs. transaction-oriented. It might sound simple, but it is not easy. It takes time and patience to build and grow each relationship. It takes a good amount of number-crunching and vast knowledge of micro and macroeconomics and sociology, so you are always learning. Personal freedom with responsibility comes with real estate careers. Unlike working in a 9-5 job environment, real estate careers provide you with greater flexibility on how you use your time.
Q) What do you hope to get out of your membership with CARW?
A) CARW is an over 950-strong trade organization with a good mix of 65% brokerage members and 35% affiliates. I enjoy meeting people, so never hesitate to say hi.
