Q) What is your favorite quote?
A) “Comparison is the thief of joy.” This was most recently brought up in ARCO’s Women in Construction panel and really stuck with me. It’s a healthy reminder to not allow comparison to dictate your next steps and trajectory in a tough, competitive industry. Instead, find happiness with living in the present, continuing to learn and grow, and being unapologetically you.
Q) Where did you grow up?
A) I grew up in Menomonee Falls and went to Sussex Hamilton High School. If you haven’t been to Karl’s Country Market on Pilgrim Road for hot ham and rolls or their award-winning summer sausage, then you’re missing out!
Q) What was cool growing up but isn’t cool now?
A) Listening on the weekend radio for that #1 hit on Casey Kasem’s Countdown! Although, I would argue if Casey was still around to tell us to “keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars” – it would still be cool.
Q) What projects are you involved/most excited about?
A) My favorite project so far has been an adaptive reuse conversion of an old Chicago manufacturing building into a production brewery and taproom. Not only are the owners of Midwest Coast Brewing amazing people to work with, but every beer on the menu is also delicious. Like many adaptive reuse projects, the building was challenging and had many unique surprises throughout design and construction. I’m excited by all the opportunities there are in Milwaukee to transform underutilized buildings and execute a new vision for the space and community.
Q) What is your favorite place to travel to?
A) Prior to moving back to the Milwaukee area, I took a whirlwind tour of Southeast Asia as part of ARCO’s 30-day sabbatical program. I used the travel stipend to visit Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand (beware of the monkeys!), and Vietnam with my husband and friends. This was truly the trip of a lifetime. I’m happy to share travel itineraries with anyone thinking of making their way to that side of the world!
