Q: What do you enjoy the most about commercial real estate?
A: Without a doubt, it’s serving the people here in the local Commercial Real Estate community. It’s a great community with so much happening, and people are so supportive of one another. It’s competitive but collaborative. It’s also interesting to watch the titans of the industry who have done so much for the community, now turning over the reins to the next generation. We need to appreciate all that they did to innovate and make our community the amazing place that it is and continue to build on that hard work.
Q: What is the best piece of advice you have received?
A: Don’t overthink things.
Q: What is your favorite quote?
A: “It’s gonna be a great day!” – First thing I say every day when I walk into the office and on a chalkboard, I keep as a reminder on the wall. If you don’t start out with that mentality each and every day, it’s going to be hard to inspire those around you to do the same.
Q: Where did you grow up?
A: I grew up in rural Western Racine County, where we went to a K-8 grade school. We were “country kids” but were also 20 minutes to downtown Racine and Milwaukee; it was the best of both worlds.
Q: What was cool you were growing up but isn’t cool now?
A: I see so many things coming back that were cool, like kids “tight rolling” the bottoms of their jeans. I would rather be late to class after gym than be caught with unrolled jean cuffs (and my button-down cotton shirt rolled up below the elbows). I would say that making mix tapes made from listening to the “American Top 40” is a lost art that probably will never be cool again, but in a way, my Pandora station is a high-tech version of this. I kind of miss the challenge of not having Casey Kasem’s voice muddy up the start of the best song of the week (insert super play and record simultaneous button reflexes here).
Q: What’s your favorite place to travel to?
A: Anywhere in the Northwoods of Wisconsin (which for those who haven’t lived there, is officially north of Hwy 64).
Q: What do you hope to get out of your membership with CARW?
A: I know that you only get as much back as you contribute to any organization, so I hope to get actively involved in any way possible that utilizes my abilities. Tracy and her team along with countless volunteers do an amazing job bringing everyone together to learn, advocate, and elevate the industry.
