Our National Association of REALTORS Commercial Advocacy efforts focus on issues that support community development, tax reform, commerce, quality of life, and more. Over the course of the 116th Congress (Jan 2019-Jan 2021), our lobby team has been creating and streamlining policy around Federal Opportunity Zone Program, Qualified Business Income Deduction and Infrastructure policy at a federal level. Just this week, the US Transportation Secretary, Elaine Chao was in Milwaukee announcing a major investment in Milwaukee’s General Mitchell Airport. While there may be other more glamorous issues that receive the spotlight on a day to day basis, our team in DC works tirelessly to move these large, complicated issues forward to benefit our Industry. Please check out this LINK to monitor progress and find more detail about the federal agenda which our members impact and weigh in on through committee work on a national level. In addition to Commercial specific issues, NAR prides itself in taking on items to address home ownership and affordability. As the tax landscape changes, home ownership incentives change, cost of construction impacts cost of ownership, and demographics alter how and where people live, NAR has taken a leadership role in exposing the short and long term problems associated with shrinking home ownership numbers, and potential solutions to ensure home ownership remains high. NAR recently held a forum on housing affordability. More information may be found HERE.
