Q) How did you get started in Commercial Real Estate?
A) Approaching graduation, I responded to an add for an Asst Property Manager position in DT Minneapolis. I showed up at the Class A high rise, and the management office was on the 38th floor in a beautiful office with amazing views. I jumped at the chance when offered the position, thinking I had made it. Three months later we were on the third floor of the building, in an old office space with views of a loading dock. Based on that, I like to say I was tricked into getting into CRE, but 27 years later I’m still here and I can’t imagine what else I’d be doing.
Q) What do you enjoy about working in CRE?
A) Solving problems, creating opportunities, and getting to be a jack of all trades.
Q) What is your favorite quote or personal mantra?
A) The mind remains steady and calm when we respond with the appropriate attitude for the situation.
Q) Where did you grow up and how has it shaped who you are today?
A) I grew up in WI. Born in Madison, living there until 8th grade. Our family then moved to Pewaukee and lived there for a couple of years, we then relocated to Onalaska where I graduated HS. Each of those environments was a unique experience, but shaped my ability to build meaningful relationships over time and distance.
Q)What was considered “cool” when you were growing up that totally isn’t anymore?
A) MTV. Back then it was groundbreaking medium for delivering music and culture. Now it seems to be the antithesis of that.
Q) What projects are you currently working on or most excited about?
A) We are continually evolving our product to ensure that we have best-in-class offerings in the market. I appreciate working with a team that doesn’t rest on its laurels.
Q) Where’s your favorite place to travel—or a destination still on your bucket list?
A) San Sebastian, Spain. The food, the wine, the people, it can’t be beat.
Q) Who would you love to have lunch with—past or present—and why?
A) Pioneering extreme skier, Glen Plake. As a lifelong skier and admirer of how Glen helped transform freeskiing, I’d bet he’s got some incredible stories to tell.
Q) What do you hope to gain through your CARW membership?
A) Meaningful connections with industry peers.
