Did you know that 67 % of news is consumed through social media – which surpassed all other mediums including print, television and radio.
On December 13th, media experts from CARW partners at Laughlin Constable joined our members to discuss not only pitching stories, but protecting your personal brand and corporate reputation. In addition to discussing how to handle a crisis situation or leaked information, the team focused on cutting through the noise with a well-planned pitch and solid communication plan. Key take-aways included: making it easy for the reporter to tell the story by providing succinct talking points to shape the story; catchy headlines matter; and make sure you have a rapport with members of the media before a story is written so that they come to you as a trusted resource.
The team shared the following SEVEN Tips & Tactics for mastering the Spokesperson Role:
1. Know who you’re talking to – and what you’re talking about.
2. Think 3 Cs – Concise, Conversational and Catchy.
3. Build bridges, pivot and take charge.
4. Stay cool.
5. ‘No comment’ is no good.
6. Honesty is the only policy.
7. Keep your guard up.
