Wisconsin’s November 3 election will shape the policies that affect commercial real estate for years to come: taxes, development incentives, permitting and the state’s business climate. Whatever your views, the most important step is to vote, and the easiest way to make sure that happens is to make a plan now.
What’s on the ballot
- Governor: An open seat, with no incumbent running for the first time in eight years.
- Other statewide offices: Attorney General, Secretary of State and State Treasurer.
- U.S. House: All eight of Wisconsin’s congressional seats.
- State Legislature: Every Assembly seat and 17 of the 33 Senate seats.
- Three constitutional amendments:
- Barring governors from using the partial veto to raise taxes or fees.
- Prohibiting government from closing places of worship or banning worship gatherings during an emergency.
- Prohibiting government entities from discriminating against or giving preferential treatment to groups in contracting, employment and education.
- Local races and referendums, which vary by community.

Know your deadlines
- Registration: The online and mail deadline has passed, but you can still register in person at your clerk’s office through October 30, or at your polling place on Election Day.
- Early voting: In-person absentee voting begins as early as October 20 in some communities and ends Sunday, November 1. Check with your clerk for local hours and locations.
- Absentee by mail: Request your ballot by 5 p.m. Thursday, October 29. Your completed ballot must reach your clerk by 8 p.m. on Election Day, so return it early, ideally by drop box or in person rather than by mail.
- Election Day: Polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3.
- Photo ID: Bring a photo ID, such as a Wisconsin driver’s license, state ID card, passport or military ID.
