When it comes to politics and policy, commercial practitioners have unique needs – but at the same time focus on a broad array of issues. Through CARW, we engage in the REALTOR® Party platform which supports a powerful alliance of Commercial Real Estate practitioners, REALTORS® and REALTOR® Associations working to advance public policies and candidates that support, enhance and protect our industry. Over the last year, members have either said “how do I get more involved?” or “I don’t want anything to do with this.” Frankly, we had a lot more people wanting to lean in, than step back – because they know that by being involved and engaged, they have a voice in directing their industry.
Examples include, business attraction and incentives, zoning, development policy, matters having to do with the independent contractor, lien law, and keeping the REALTOR at the heat of the transaction.
YOU NEED NOT BE A LICENSED REALTOR TO PARTICIPATE. ALL PRACTITIONERS ARE WELCOME!
If you have decided that now is the time to get involved, there are THREE ways through CARW:
Invest in RPAC: Invest as little as $50 – these dollars are pooled with other members’ dollars, then directed via the WRA RPAC trustees, to candidates who support and advocate for the issues that support our industry. Click HERE
Join the LDC – Large Donor Council: Large Donor Council members drive policy and decision making that impacts our commercial real estate industry. LDC members contribute a minimum of $1,000 that is split in two parts: $700 to the direct giver conduit which you have complete control of, and $300 to RPAC which are dollars pooled with other RPAC supporters then directed by the RPAC governing board towards candidates from both parties who support CRE-friendly issues. Contribute HERE.
Participate in our Policy Committee: This is one of CARW’s largest committees and has met regularly and/or intermittently as needed depending on issues. Right now, we’re discussing the State Budget which is on the horizon, issues to be brought forward from last legislation session, local issues, coalitions and federal (NAR) policies affecting our industry. This is an active committee and seeks YOUR input to guide the conversation. Email Tracy for more information.
The REALTORS have been successful over time in moving their efforts for many reasons, most notably: 1) issues are bi-partisan in nature and 2) REALTORS have strength in numbers. More than 1.4 million members make up the REALTOR party. Your support enhances our industry and your career. We look forward to working with you in 2021!
