We have received a number of inquiries regarding the City of Milwaukee Mask Mandate passed by the Common Council on January 18th. Most inquiries had to do with timelines and enforcement. At time of this note (Jan 20, 2022), it had not yet been signed by the Mayor but we expect it will in the coming days. We have been in discussion with City Hall regarding enforcement and communication around office buildings with public areas. They have conveyed that there will be no formal enforcement mechanism and no penalty for non-compliance, and the hope is that individual entities will communicate as they see fit. Please see Journal Sentinel article HERE.
Some landlords are choosing to communicate with tenants that ‘masks are strongly recommended’ in public areas. Within individual private office settings, however, many are choosing to continue existing policies. While the ordinance is written to be in effect through March 1st, it may be lifted earlier. We understand that this creates confusion for businesses and owners in the City of Milwaukee. CARW advocates for personal responsibility and the best fit approach to COVID for your business.
