NextGen Recap | Attorney Panel | July 12, 2022

CARW NextGenners heard from four of our leading attorneys on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.  Thanks to Brian Randall (Davis & Kuelthau), Jackie Hrovrat (Mallery, S.C), and Rebecca Mitich (Husch Blackwell, LLP). The discussion was moderated by our NextGen alum, Alexandra Don (Mallery, S.C.).  Our panelists discussed the importance of relationships, knowing the deal, and other valuable resources.

Some of the best take-aways pertained to personal development and our industry included:

  • Be proactive about involving attorneys in the process early on
  • NAILING DOWN THE DEAL TERMS
  • Relationships and networking are important
  • You never know where a referral may come from – so take advantage of opportunities to meet all types of people in many different industries
  • “It’s okay not to know things” – Rebecca Mitich (Husch Blackwell, LLP)
  • “Ask for help and ask for guidance” – Jackie Hvorat (Mallery, S.C.)
  • Each relationship can serve a different purpose (soundboard, advice, etc.)
  • Don’t abuse “free” advice
  • Sometimes picking up the phone is better than a chain of emails
  • Know the deal ahead of getting an attorney involved to save your client time and money – and position yourself as an ongoing resource
  • The time that lacks responsiveness kills deals
