On Monday, June 26, CARW members heard from leaders from the Harbor District about the organization, the progress and the opportunities for the area located just south of downtown Milwaukee. The organization’s executive director, Lilith Fowler and board President Ivan Gamboa, shared a compelling presentation and answered questions. They suggested that the redevelopment of the area would occur with or without the district’s oversight of this legacy industrial area, but that the Harbor District group serves as a guidepost for good development and seeks to balance responsible development of mid-1800’s real estate with ecological interests. The anticipated economic development for the site is more than 2,000 new jobs and $1Billion in assessed value. Over the past two years, stakeholders have been working on a water and land use plan that incorporates commercial real estate interests, multi-family housing and parkland for the community.
