Wisconsin’s spring nonpartisan primary election is on Tuesday, February 18th. This primary is to determine the candidates who will appear on the April 7th ballot. A number of important Statewide and local elections will take place at this time. We encourage all members to learn about what each candidate represents and stands for. Among the races on the ballot will be the primary for Milwaukee Mayor, Milwaukee County Executive and State of Wisconsin Supreme Court. The most watched [Statewide election on the ballot is for State of Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice, for a 10 year term. Three candidates are running in the February primary – bios are referenced below. The Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice election is crucial for Commercial Real Estate for many reasons including the influence decisions have on cases including private property rights and upholding contracts where possible. Decisions of the Supreme Court have determined our Industry’s ability to prosper and grow.
Following the February spring primary, we will share candidate questionnaires with the final two candidates. The Wisconsin REALTORS Association have released an endorsement of Justice Dan Kelley who was appointed to the court in 2016.

Ed Fallone is a Constitutional Law Professor at Marquette Law School. He is very involved in The Latino community in Milwaukee. Fallone previously ran for the Wisconsin Supreme Court race in 2013. Jill Karofsky graduated from Duke University and obtained her master’s and law degrees from The University of Wisconsin-Madison. After obtaining her law degree, she joined the Dane County District Attorney’s office. Justice Daniel Kelly graduated from Carroll College in 1986 and obtained a law degree from Regent University School of Law in 1991. He was appointed to the Supreme Court by Governor Scott Walker in 2016 and is the current incumbent.
