The Municipal Data Tool provides more than 10 years of data on Wisconsin’s 606 cities and villages, allowing users to see trends over time. The tool covers municipal spending, property taxes and values, debt, fund balances, state-shared revenues, income and income taxes, and population. This latest version of the tool provides updated data from the 2023 version. The tool is used extensively by local officials and the public, and key findings this year include a sizable increase in statewide spending by cities and villages as they tried to adjust to the impact of the rapid inflation at that time on their labor and other costs. The growth in municipal debt, however, has slowed for most communities and been outpaced by increases in property values. CARW is proud to support this effort of the Wisconsin Policy Forum.
