On March 15th, members from 9 Wisconsin commercial real estate associations headed to the State Capitol to advocate for issues that support our industry. In addition to meetings with members of the Wisconsin Joint Finance Committee including Representative Dale Kooyenga, more than 30 legislator visits were scheduled. Members also heard from the Secretary of the Department of Revenue, Rick Chandler. Others assisted with testimony for the Government Accountability Board on AB66 related to government leases.
The coalition represents more than 2,000 commercial real estate practitioners throughout the State of Wisconsin and has been participating in this annual tradition for more than a decade. The main focus of the conversations were around the 2017-19 State of Wisconsin Budget, introduced in February, 2017.
Members addressed the following related to the Budget:
- Transportation Funding and Enumeration of the I-94 E/W Corridor
- Restoration of the Historic Tax Credit Funding
- Support of the elimination of the State Property Tax
Members urged legislators to continue their involvement of commercial real estate professionals as they develop new legislation and make changes to existing law. Specifically, the coalition members offered their support related to the enhancement and improvement of TIF (Tax Incremental Financing) bills; Tax Assessment changes, and Brownfield legislation.
