SUMMARY:Navigating Milwaukee's red hot construction landscape. Panel discussion Lunch & Learn September 28th
DESCRIPTION:Construction cranes and job trailers are now a familiar sight in metro Milwaukee\, but is there trouble ahead? Private financing and government incentives and programs are a must for certain types of projects. Is the public’s appetite going to run dry? The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that December of 2014 was the third highest month of unfilled construction jobs since the recession ended. Making the worker shortage worse\, is that during the recession\, unemployed and near-retired construction workers moved on and are not returning. Compound that with manual labor jobs not being promoted by parents and schools. Some trade contractors are precariously accepting too many jobs\, creating risks to both general contractors and owners of non or slow performance. The shortage also means new workers without experience and wisdom are increasing the chance of mistakes and accidents – and the same could be true for Project Managers. How should real estate professionals and developers modify their strategies to avoid problems associated with a red-hot development/construction climate? \nThis panel discussion will be moderated by Roy Wagner\, Chair of the Construction Law Section at von Briesen & Roper and will include: \n-Andy Wiegman\, Mandel Group\, Inc.\n-T.J. Morley\, Eppstein Uhen Architects\, Inc.\n– Larry Rocole\, J.P. Cullen & Sons\, Inc.\n– John Duggan\, The Concord Group\n– John Gilroy\, Gilbane Building Company \nThe panel will discuss key strategies in avoiding and minimizing risk during these times of high demand for construction services. Real estate professional developers\, lenders and contractors will gain insights and strategies to minimize the risks associated with: \n-Planning and Selecting Design and Construction Professionals in tight market\n-Contract strategies for developers/owners\n-Rising Construction Costs\n-Long lead time and material shortages\n-Best Construction Administration practices\n-Conflict Resolution Options \nLunch will be provided and Parking will be provided in the 411 Structure \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Historic Tax Credit Update
DESCRIPTION:The current Historic Tax Credit program has been extremely successful  in meeting its objectives for the commercial real estate community.  It is a useful tool for economic development – creating jobs\, growing local tax bases\, restoring historically significant buildings\, and generating state and local tax revenues.  Ironically\, because the program has been more successful than projected\, significant changes are being proposed in the Governor’s budget now before the Legislature to hinder that success.  The CRE industry has identified the Historic Tax Credit as one of its top legislative priorities for 2015\, and has joined with an active coalition to research and advocate for changes to the proposed budget. \n Join CARW\, NAIOP-WI\, BOMA and the Milwaukee Preservation Alliance for this timely program to hear about the work of this coalition including:\n– History of the HTC program\n– Economic impact case\n– Implications of the proposed legislation\n– Progress on current advocacy efforts \nDate: Friday\, May 8\nTime: 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. (registration at 10:15)\nLocation: Pritzlaff Building at 311 N Plankinton Ave\nFee: There is no fee to attend \nPresenters: \nJonathan Beck\, Alexander Corporation\nJeff Bentoff\, Milwaukee Preservation Alliance\nMatthew Jarosz\, Professor\, UWM\nDick Lincoln\, Mandel Group (Retired) \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:WisDOT’s Southeast Freeways 15 Year Vision
DESCRIPTION:With forty-three percent of the state’s cargo moving in or out of Southeastern Wisconsin\, having unclogged and efficient freeways is crucial to keep the economy moving throughout Wisconsin. WisDOT has an accelerated\, economical plan to rebuild southeastern Wisconsin’s aging freeway system that would save taxpayers and residents time and money. This plan would modernize the freeways which provide critical access to Wisconsin jobs\, tourism and economic growth\, including nearly 25\,000 employers located within two miles of the freeway corridors in the Southeast Freeways 15-Year Vision. \nWisDOT Southeast Region Director\, Brett Wallace\, will discuss the Southeast Freeways 15-Year Vision and why a safe and efficient transportation system in southeastern Wisconsin benefits the entire state. \nREGISTER HERE \n
