Under his leadership\, Milwaukee experienced a decline in poverty\, saw a boom in new downtown housing\, and became a leading center of education and welfare reform. He has overseen a revision of the city’s zoning code and reoriented development around walkable streets and public amenities such as the city’s 3.1-mile Riverwalk. He has drawn widespread recognition for championing the removal of a .8 mile stretch of elevated freeway\, clearing the way for an anticipated $250 million in in.ll development in the heart of Milwaukee. \nA leader in national discussions of urban design and educational issues\, Mr. Norquist is the author of The Wealth of Cities\, and has taught courses in urban policy and urban planning at the University of Chicago\, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Architecture and Urban Planning\, and at Marquette University. SUMMARY:Historic Tax Credit Update
DESCRIPTION:The current Historic Tax Credit program has been extremely successful  in meeting its objectives for the commercial real estate community.  It is a useful tool for economic development – creating jobs\, growing local tax bases\, restoring historically significant buildings\, and generating state and local tax revenues.  Ironically\, because the program has been more successful than projected\, significant changes are being proposed in the Governor’s budget now before the Legislature to hinder that success.  The CRE industry has identified the Historic Tax Credit as one of its top legislative priorities for 2015\, and has joined with an active coalition to research and advocate for changes to the proposed budget. \n Join CARW\, NAIOP-WI\, BOMA and the Milwaukee Preservation Alliance for this timely program to hear about the work of this coalition including:\n– History of the HTC program\n– Economic impact case\n– Implications of the proposed legislation\n– Progress on current advocacy efforts \nDate: Friday\, May 8\nTime: 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. (registration at 10:15)\nLocation: Pritzlaff Building at 311 N Plankinton Ave\nFee: There is no fee to attend \nPresenters: \nJonathan Beck\, Alexander Corporation\nJeff Bentoff\, Milwaukee Preservation Alliance\nMatthew Jarosz\, Professor\, UWM\nDick Lincoln\, Mandel Group (Retired) \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Lunch and Learn - Construction and Labor Costs Panel
DESCRIPTION:CARW December Lunch and Learn – Construction and Labor Costs Panel | December 15\, 2014 \nConstruction costs in the U.S. fell approximately 12 percent in 2008 through year-end 2010. Since then\, they have steadily risen and are approaching their 2008 highs. The steady creep of rebuilding costs can create a sizeable gap between the dollar amount that commercial property owners have to rebuild and what it actually costs if disaster strikes.
