On February 5, 2020 CARW Members were in Madison for a series of meetings with legislators and leaders. With just a few days left in the session, members were there to discuss a number of issues including proposed TIF bills, property tax assessment changes, ideas for lowering the property tax, transportation funding and several provisions in the affordable housing bills. We were able to meet with Representative Scott Allen, State Senator Duey Stroebel among others. Debby Jackson, Executive Director for the Transportation Development Association, presented to the group, on changes in transportation funding within the budget, progress on I-43 North/South, as well as opportunities for the future including work on I-94. We had the opportunity to meet with new WEDC Secretary Missy Hughes, who started in the role in October, 2019. Deputy Secretary Sam Rikkers also joined us for the robust discussion on workforce, site selection, incentive programs, and ways that our industry may support the department’s efforts.
